Explanation: During the Protestant Reformation, a period wherein a significant proportion of Christians split from the Catholic Church, one of the core disputes was over whether the eucharist - the ritual consumption of bread and wine - was literally the body and blood of Jesus Christ, or only symbolically the body and blood of Jesus Christ.

In the spirit of the peace-loving teachings of Jesus Christ, they opted to spend a good deal of time murdering both each other and various dissidents over this disagreement.

There’s plenty of other causes, like if clergt should be allowed to fuck or not, should holy texts be read in native languages, and if you should be allowed to pay the church in order to get to heaven.

Additionally: The head of a Protestant church is the local monarch, as there is no pope mentioned in the bible, i.e. all possessions of the church on their territory belong to them. So, the monarchs also had some financial incentive to convert their states to Protestantism.

Why was this a big fight?? Couldn’t they just have found someone with celiac disease and fed them a cracker to test it?

Testing religions always gives accurate answers, instead of what they prefer to think. It’s strongly discouraged by the church and even in the Bible itself.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

And this is why I know the word transubstantiation and will never have use for it in conversation.

Something that bothered me, even when I was within the church, was this entire concept. Like, you’re telling me cannibalism is fine, so long as it’s the son of God?

Cause either it’s cannibalism as the flesh of the man, or it’s eating your deity as the embodiment of God.

… Do you think eating the Brains of Christ would give you holy prion disease? Is Speaking in Tongues just Gods Kuru?
