Man, imagine being someone who got paid for writing, while others had to plow fields for a living, by hand. And sow them by hand. And plow them again by hand. And weed them by hand. And fertilize them by hand. And harvest them by hand.

And I do mean by hand, because animal labour is expensive and animals weren’t really involved for lots of medieval peasants. And that includes the process of producing the fertilizer.
