Explanation: After the unification of Germany in the 1870s, Britain and France both felt threatened by the massive military and economic power suddenly united on the European continent. While France’s antipathy towards the German states was long-lasting and unyielding, the UK was fairly new to the sport of hating The Hun™, as historically the UK had backed German states against France - and had a German-derived dynasty heading its monarchy!

Compounded by the incompetent showboating and inferiority complex of the last German Emperor, Kaiser Wilhelm II, France and the UK decided to set aside their long-enduring rivalry in favor of hating Germany together! How holsum!

They all mostly get along now. At least, I haven’t heard any sabre-rattling as of late…
