This sounds like that scene in The Restaurant at the End of the Universe where the spaceliner is keeping everyone trapped in suspended animation because the civilization collapsed before the lemon-scented paper napkins were loaded so the autopilot is waiting for a new civilization to develop on the planet that can provide the napkins and will only depart on its journey once that’s done.

As an American, Milano doesn’t seem like it’s hard to pronounce. We even have a brand of cookies named Milano, although it probably gets slightly mispronounced. The first syllable usually ends up with the I being pronounced more like it would in “mid” than “me”

This reminds me of the British during the Boer wars showing the poor, mentally deficient children of the Boers who couldn’t even form intelligible speech, when in fact the children were just speaking Afrikaans. I don’t have a whole lot of sympathy for the Boer cause since it seems to be a heavy tradition of invasive racism but I did feel bad for the kids being mistreated in that situation.

It’s worse when it’s professionally. Yesterday I wrote and sent an email before lunch, except near the end of the day I saw I had an email in my Drafts folder and had never actually hit send.
