“Centrists” are those that oppose authoritarianism in all forms. The far left and and far right make rationalizations about why their preferred flavour of authoritarianism is good (it just gets a bad rap!) while pretending to vehemently oppose the other side’s flavour of authoritarianism.

But in the end, those who rationalize in favour of any kind of authoritarianism could easily be manipulated into supporting any other kind of authoritarianism. There’s a reason the Nazis called themselves the Nationalist Socialist party, just a small amount branding can get a good number “leftists” to support fascism. Because few people actually think in ideological terms, they just go along with the group and repeat whatever ideological bullshit they’ve heard to conform with the group. It’s easier to turn a socialist into a fascist (and vice versa) since it’s mostly just about branding.

Socialists and Fascists love the concept of political spectrum they can put themselves on opposite ends of, but that’s all an artificial construct to allow for fear of the other to rationalize the need for a strongman to protect them from the other side that supposedly has completely different values than them. But the “far right” and “far left” have both been conned into being willing to give up their rights in fear of the other. Fascism is a convenient rationalization for communism and communism is a convenient rationalization for fascism. These “ideologies” has a symbiotic relationship with each other.

Those who fall for these grifts believe the verbal diarrhea of demagogues that use a lot of words and say little other than give a vague feeling of “trust me, give me power, I will make you stronger / more equal”. The stupid see someone using a lot of words and don’t notice there isn’t any real explanation of how the demagogue will deliver on their vague promises. They just need to hate the same people their audience hates and use a lot of words, and the stupid will eat whatever bullshit is thrown at them.

Internet podcasting has allowed people to have an endless selection of small time demagogues to choose from. The flavour of authoritarianism the stupid will fall prey to is entirely dependent on which content an algorithm selects for them. And that is based on content they may consumed before puberty. These grifters need to get them while they’re young, someone with more life experience will be more likely to say “yeah sure that’s a lot of fancy words, but how does any of that help me right now?” which they don’t have an answer for.

The motivation of Nazis for killing people was that they believed they were “sorting the good from the bad.”

Why do you believe you’re the best person to judge who is good and who is bad? When you’re thinking that bad people should be killed and you think all Israelis are bad (~30% of the Jews in the world) you’re starting to seem a bit too close to the Nazis than you might have considered.

I know how common it is for antisemites to use find and replace “Jews” for “Israelis” on the hateful conspircay theories they wrote decades ago. And I know how common it is for people to just lap that shit up now.

My grandfather actually prevented Nazis from getting shot. They had surrendered and some others wanted to shoot them anyway. By preventing some Nazis from getting shot, my grandfather prevented a war crime from happening.

I’m not so naive as to believe it went this way everywhere during the war. In fact I know a guy from my home town who killed a civilian in Italy for no reason. Just an old guy walking down the road killed for no reason. There was no court martial, he just got chewed out by his CO and they moved on. So there was a war criminal living my home town. The other old fellas never talked to home but most people didn’t know anything about what he did in the war.

So I understand that not everyone that fought in WWII (the “good” war) were good people. There were many war criminals on the allied side, we just don’t talk about it much. But my grandfather was a good man for preventing those soldiers from being executed. I felt like I owed it to him to learn about why Germany gave into the Nazis.

I’m seeing the people go down that same path today. The same rationalizations for antisemitism the Nazis used are being used again. It’s shameful that the younger generation can’t pick up a history book and see the mistakes they’re making. Why would you want to be the antisemitic generation?

I’ve also looked at the photos of German cities at the end of the War. They’re the same as photos of Gaza today. This is what hatred leads to. The German people were able to move past the cycle of hatred and become a prosperous country.

Right here I’m not seeing people wanting to move past their hatred and build something better. It seems people don’t want to build a prosperous Palestinian state, they just want to stay in a cycle of hatred and violence forever.

You may feel like reconciling with Israelis is weak, but the alternative is another war like the one we just witnessed happening again. Is that what you want? The real weakness is wanting more Palestinians to die for the sake of some manufactured hatred of Jews.

There is no proof that the Israelis in the article committed war crimes.

So you’ve already crossed a line by assuming all soldiers in the IDF are war criminals, and since military service is compulsory in Israel, pretty much all Israelis have served in the IDF at some time in their lives. So you’ve rationalized that all Israelis are war criminals, so that’s 30% of all Jews are war criminals.

Maybe in your little bubble these rationalizations about 30% of all Jews being war criminals is somehow distinguishable from antisemitism. But in the real world, making rationalizations about Jews being evil is called antisemitism.

Do you know how common it is for racists to say “I’m not racist you’re being racist”?

There wouldn’t need to be a Jewish state if Jews were guaranteed entry into Canada and safety while here.

Right now there are calls to ban Jews from entry into Canada.

It’s not because of people like me there needs to be a Jewish state. It’s because of people like you.

We’ve had to pass laws to prevent the “free Palestine” crowd from harassing Canadian Jews at synagogues. If that crowd had their way, Jews would not be welcome in Canada even if they were born here.

You want to pretend you’re not a part of an antisemitic movement so much that you turn a blind eye to the rampant antisemitism embedded within it. These calls for refusing Israelis entry into Canada is from that part of your movement.

Canada was one of the countries that refused to allow Jews to enter the country. Now people want us to be that way again. That’s the reason why a Jewish state has to exist.

History doesn’t repeat, but it sure does rhyme. It’s a sad state of affairs that the younger generation is falling for the same antisemitic bullshit people fell for a hundred years ago, but here we are.

I wish we lived in a world where a Jewish state isn’t necessary, but it’s necessary because of people rationalizing why it’s a good thing to refuse Jews entry into the country. There needs to be at least one country in the world that won’t refuse Jews entry. The only guarantee that there will be at least one country in the world that won’t refuse the entry of Jews in times of antisemitism (In case you didn’t notice, we’re in one of those times right now) is if there’s a Jewish state.

Yes it’s embarrassing to humanity that we can’t shake the whole antisemitism thing which necessitates a Jewish state. But humanity sucks and it’s the only way for it to be guaranteed there is a safe place for Jews in times like this is for there to be a Jewish state.

Back at you. Have these soldiers been caught on camera doing anything illegal? Our society is base on the ideal of innocent until proven guilty. The call is for Israelis to be assumed guilty until proven innocent. We don’t treat people from other countries that way.

Would you think it’s acceptable to treat people coming from Sudan this way? Why not?

It’s obvious to anyone outside your little bubble the discrepancies between how you want Israelis treated and how you want people from other countries treated is because of ethnicity. You want a racist immigration policies, but have rationalized in your mind why that’s acceptable. The same rationalizations that all racists use.

Canada is a free country, and the definition of “IDF soldier” could include pretty much every Israeli given that military service is compulsory there.

The whole reason there needs to be a Jewish state is because there have been times in the past when Jews were not allowed into countries because of antisemitism. So congratulations, you’ve only justified the existence of Israel through your racist actions.
