10·3 days agoAnd as an fyi the National Security Journal jumped on the F-35 bandwagon just in time.
Canada already has thousands of jobs tied to F-35 production. Splitting the fleet to chase industrial offsets would weaken deterrence and further erode Canadian credibility.

17·3 days agoConservationists are raising concerns as the City of Winnipeg considers walking back a development bylaw designed to help save birds from fatal window strikes, less than a year after the rules came into effect.
Winnipeg has had shitty city halls for decades. Our very wealthy mayor seems to be keeping the ball rolling.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Althia Raj: Mark Carney is quietly giving sweeping new powers to his ministersEnglish
141·4 days agoHidden in the federal government’s 634-page omnibus bill C-15, the Budget Implementation Act, is a measure that has so far escaped scrutiny. Under the pretext of regulatory efficiency, Prime Minister Mark Carney plans to grant cabinet ministers the power to exempt any individual or company from any federal law on the books — except for the Criminal Code — for up to six years.
Well fuck. I had high hopes for this man based on his leadership during the '08 crash. I was an idiot to think he’d be any better than the rest of the political scumbags who lead our cities, provinces and country.
Maybe it’s time we have a nation-wide strike, before things get worse than they are now.

Canada@lemmy.ca•How will the Cowichan decision effect your property title?English
8·8 days agoAgreed. There’s a whole lot of ‘ifs’ in it and I’m not sure why. I mean is this supposed to be a scare piece to get BCers up in arms over the unlikely possibility that First Nation communities will kick every non-Indigenous person off the land?? Why in the hell would they do that?? Like really???
First Nation communities aren’t the boogie man here. Mining and oil operations are. And if anything does happen I would bet my last dollar that those communities would be fighting against the rich assholes who wanna poison the water, rape the land and/or sell our potable water sources.
This is nothing more than a hit piece.

71·8 days agoShe was looking to understand what was written in the hope she would see light at the end of the tunnel.
Unfortunately afaik not one province pays physicians/psychologists to sit with a patient (for as long as it takes) to discuss anything.
And that is the failure of our healthcare system.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Hypothetically, if Quebec were to separate from Canada, do you think that Canada should remain bilingual?English
10·8 days agoYou will either need to be French/English bilingual or English/Cree-Ojibway-Saulteaux-Coast Salish/Haida, etc bilingual.
Why you ask? Because Canada has walked the official bilingual state status for far too long to give it up on a whim.

A better solution is for physicians to be open about what they’re writing/typing … and offering the patient an opportunity to read - and discuss - everything right then and there.
That’s what I was taught by my prof in university in BSW.
