the lyrics don’t make it better.

Then have the confidence in yourself to like them. If you legit like them, it shouldn’t matter that they are overrated

EDIT : I’m listening to meshuggah’s I, which is all fucked up and complex. Either today or yesterday, I put on “Sunshine Lollipops” and some stupid meme song about “to stop a gaben”. one doesn’t invalidate the other.

that’s a good point. I never thought about the fact that something can be culturally overrated but still, well, good. considering I’m the judge of what music is good to me, anyway

shit man, go a step further. Say that you like things that are objectively trash, but you like it. And that’s ok. It’s an opinion.

Like, it’s one of the things that gets to me about art. Sometimes, you can look at something and say “yeah, this is BETTER than what I like, I just can’t fucking vibe with it”. Or “this is trash, but I fucking love it, and it’s my opinion”. People don’t do it enough.

spicy pancake likes nu metal despite knowing it’s not that good, objectively speaking… from his interpretation of it, I am unsure. Some probably sucks.

      💯

Beatles, and just about all 70s, 80s top forties shit falls into what I now call “boomer slop”. most of it, is crap. Just objectively bad. And some of it is ok. But it gets replayed so perpetually and tiredly it tires have long since worn down to just the rims.

And there is still some good stuff in there, it’s just not what gets played and often goes I looked for (the origins of punk, hip hop, new wave, dub, electronica, all find there roots from this time period), but for some reason, I have to hear the fucking Eagles again.

The Beatles and Rolling Stones are somewhat different in that they did a lot of defining what a band was in terms of festival culture, band member popularity, and publicity management. They were doing it in the early 60s, then all the copycat slop like Eagles came along in the 70s and 80s.

Yeah, it’s either junk or people got used to it as one of the hits from that time. Some though are fuckin’ rockin’ and fundamental, like sabbath, slayer, or deep purple.

Although some of the bands aren’t, corporate , market driven slop was around back then.

I have to hear the fucking Eagles again.

I hate the fuckin’ eagles man

*proceeds to get thrown out of cab*

/uj I actually don’t mind the eagles, they did the hitchiker’s guide to the galaxy tv show theme
