System76 released the first stable version of its Rust based COSMIC desktop with Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS. The update adds rewritten core apps, new tiling and workspace controls, and the new COSMIC Store. Available now for download or preinstalled on System76 devices
When I moved my kid’s desktop away from Windows I chose pop!_OS because I figured it would not only be good for newcomers, but it would also be friendlier with nvidia, which it was but I didn’t want to risk it with the Cosmic beta. I think I’ll still wait a bit before upgrading from 22.10 but it’s almost time to move forward.
